Salem Community Theatre Children's Theatre and joint sponsors the Republican and Democrat parties of Columbiana County will be presenting Benjamin Britten's "The Little Sweep" ,an opera for young people, for two weekends beginning February 12, 2010.
This is the story of eight-year old Sam, the little sweep, who is forced to clean the chimney at Iken Hall in spite of his tears and the protests of Rowan, the nursery maid. Sam gets stuck in the chimney but is rescued by the children of the house. Rowan and the children hide Sam from his not so nice master Black Bob. Together they wash, feed and clothe young Sam and plan to help him escape. Will the children succeed? Can they help Sam escape the evil Black Bob, and find happiness and freedom at last?
Young and old alike will enjoy this classic children tale set to music. Director and Musical Director Jon Simsic has assembled the talented duo of Jacob Nash and Jack Sheets, who will be sharing the role of Sam at alternating performances. A host of other talented performers of all ages round out the cast.
